I had an engineer draw up some plans to replace some supports, and shopped them around to a few contractors. Leuri from RtP was by far the most prompt, professional, and detail oriented. He gave me a written quote the following day, and came back for a second look when I told him I expected the quote to be higher. He stood by the quote. "I purchased a 170 year old house a few years ago and last year discovered that a number of the of the joists had rotted where they meet the outer wall sill. In some cases the rot extended to most of the joist. A 'restoration' that had been done to this house a decade before had clearly hidden this with insulation (as evident by paint over the rot and random support structure that seemingly had no purpose - until we found the joist rot). Yeah. After getting an outrageous quote for a solution that was not even the correct way to solve the problem, I contacted Leuri from Rebuild and he came to my house to check it out and provide a quote. The proposed work and price seemed completely reasonable, so I accepted. When the work started it became clear that there was even more damage than originally thought. Leuri worked long hours to get this extra work done, all in a cramped basement (only about 5'6" high) over 3 days. The extra price charged for the additional work was very reasonable and transparent. Learning that the support structure for the main floor of your house is in danger of eventual collapse is nerve-racking. Rebuild solved the problem by directly replacing or sistering the joists and did a great job at a reasonable price. I fully recommend."

We sent him our engineer's drawings for a quotation and he quickly sent one that detailed the work and at a competitive price. "Thankfully, sometimes the reviews are actually right, count your blessings when they are too often they are not! We got several quotes and were leaning towards Leuri and RTP due to so many good reviews, then Leuri came to quote and I could tell he knew his stuff and cared more than the others that came, he was also very competitive with pricing so here we are happy customers! This was our most important contractor choice, our house was built by Mickey Mouse & Disney, our load-bearing wall was never even supported properly from the start, therefore our roof either! We also wanted a flush beam and some companies made that very undesirable due to pricing, and we almost had no option to do it because it is a 21 foot length total and the joists are only 2 x 8's. Leuri came up with a couple creative options and he and YCL Engineering talked it over to confirm it would meet code, see the attached pics for the result. Leuri also re-built the 2 small side walls for us, replaced some flooring to make it level and some other odd jobs. "When I first called Leuri, I was looking for someone who could start working on our renovations as soon as possible. The earliest time that Leuri had available was almost three months from the time we spoke. However, based on the three minute conversation we had, something told me that I was not going to find better. It was the best decision we made and it was well worth the wait. Leuri was actually able to start a couple of weeks before the initial start date and completed everything ahead of or on schedule. The work he did was excellent and top notch. He was there everyday when he said he would be there and was really professional throughout the entire process. I was pregnant at the time and Leuri was very mindful of that. Since I could not spend a lot of time at the house during the renovations because I was pregnant, Leuri always informed me of anything that came up and made it easy for me to be away from home but still understand what was being done. "What more could be said about Leuri and his crew that wasn’t said? We met in April for a date in July. I was thinking that that 3-month lag time would mean that there was a chance that he might get delayed because who knows what could happen in three months. Glad to say I was wrong! Not only did they come when they said they would, they were in and out in less than two days...crazy for the amount of work they did! "First I have to apologize to Leuri and the guys at Rebuild the Planet, they have done two different jobs for me, one over two years ago and I have not written a review until now. The first job was to remove a load bearing wall separating my kitchen and living room. This entailed installing a huge LVL beam over 22' feet long in the ceiling and one over 11' long in the floor to support it without putting a post in the middle of the room in the basement. So not the simplest job. Also, it should be said that I do all of my own work other than structure, plumbing and electric and I am supper picky about who works on my house and HOW they do it. The team at Rebuild the Planet never batted and eye over any of my requests or questions and even surpassed my expectations with regards to quality and speed of work. Leuri is also excellent at giving design ideas and was super responsive to a couple of tiny issues that the inspector brought up and fixed them the same day. The second job they did for me was to tear down and rebuild an old extension on the front of my house that was never done properly the first time and was drafty and starting to rot. He provided updates on a regular basis and when issues arose he always had a recommended approach or options to consider. "We wanted to remove a bearing wall in the basement of our bungalow, but we could not decide which type and length of a beam should be installed. We were lucky to find Rebuild The Planet on Homestars. The reviews were great and we noticed that people said that Larry, the manager, gives very good advice. We contacted the company and started to plan the work. Our options were one 10ft LVL, one 10ftLVL and one 11ft LVL, or a steel beam of 19, 21 or 24 ft. The choice was dependent on cost, future layout and having a post in the middle of the basement or not. Larry presented us with all those options, told us about estimated price and benefits and drawbacks of each option. He visited us twice and we had quite a few conversations and e-mails. We decided to go with a24ft steel beam and no posts. Larry scheduled the works in a very short time. His crew was at the site on time, they all did perfect job. Larry helped us with advice and with inspections. In several days, our new beam was installed and the site was left clean. Larry and his team were very professional, the work was done to perfection and we really did not have to do anything except to schedule the inspections when Larry notified us that the work was complete. "After some debate of whether or not I would tackle the project myself, we decided to hire someone to frame our basement for us, and thankfully we found "Rebuild the Planet" to do all the framing work in our basement. From beginning to end, Leuri was fantastic. After receiving a few quotes, we decided to stick with Leuri for a few reasons. 1. Response time: was amazing - we had received the first response within a day, and responses to any questions via e-mail usually the same day. Other companies would not respond for up to a week or longer - so in my mind, if it takes a week to respond for a job opportunity, how long will it take to respond if a problem arises? Leuri was GREAT at responding to any questions or concerns we had from day 1 to completion. 2. Knowledgeable and helpful: We had provided a floor plan of what we had in mind, and we walked through it together. Throughout the walk around, Leuri provided some advice as to how to improve the design and layout, and pointed out a few details that other trades didn't consider (for example, ways re-route duct work and central vac lines to minimize bulkheads, concerns of a water line that might leak in the future, etc). 3. Flexible and Punctual: Leuri was on time, to the minute, that he said he would be there, and was very flexible with my schedule - even coming to do the layout on a Sunday afternoon! Post-Work: Over-all very happy with the results - one minor correction was needed, and Leuri came back the next day to solve it. Dimensions are exactly as we had requested, and after a few measurements I took, all the walls appear square, straight, and ready for drywall! We thought the former contractor completed the demo in our house but to our surprise when Leuri arrived, it was clear the demo work was not completely done. "As there is not many workers like Leuri in the GTA i was afraid i was going to find some one who didn't know what they were doing. But after speaking to Leuri i was happy i found him. Even if i was a little far east of the Toronto he came to do the job, i had stucco work happening at the same time so it was important to communicate and coordinate with the stucco crew for this project. "I was in the process of getting my garden sliding patio door replaced when it was discovered that the structural rim joist running along the perimeter of my house, and under the sliding patio door, was found to be rotted due to water seepage over many years. This had to be replaced in order for the patio door replacement work to proceed. Since this is a critical support component that forms part of the foundation of the house, I began a search for a contractor who was experienced in structural issues and how to tackle them. After some searching I found Leuri who agreed to come to my house to assess the situation.
